Mexican-American soprano, Amanda Olea, praised for her “tender and realistic acting”, recently won first in Tier II in the James Toland Vocal Arts Competition. She has established herself as an up and coming soprano, coming off a very successful competition season and a triumphant debut as Mimi in La Boheme. At the start of her 2023-2024 he was featured in the season opener of the La Jolla Symphony and Chorus as the Soprano Soloist in Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915. Notable career highlights include being a part of the Apprentice Artist program at Santa Fe Opera and of the Studio Artist program at Florida Grand Opera, where she sang the roles of Ms. Lightfoot in Fellow Travelers, Mexican Woman in Streetcar Named Desire, and Countess Ceprano in Rigoletto.
She recently made her international debut in Mexico City at the Festival Internacional Divertimento starring in the one-woman opera Diario de un Fantasma written by her father, Oscar Olea. A passionate enthusiast of new music, she participated in Cincinnati Opera’s Opera Fusion:New Works workshop of Kevin Puts’ The Hours, singing the roles of Barbara and Mrs. Latch.
